So I've been looking for a hardtop for my relatively new to me CJ5 for a few months now and am hoping I've found one on good ol' Craigslist. Its listed as fitting a '55-'75 but my Cj is a '78. Would I be able to make this work with my Jeep without switching my windshield out for an older one? Thanks in advance!

No
the early Cj windshield sits up to strait and you will have a gap

hey i too have been looking for a hard top for my 76 CJ5 with no luck :( so i decided to build my own(wish me luck) has anyone out there done this before? anyone have any tips and tricks?

cool thanks for the link, looks like a great top. but im going to recreate this with steel:) well... hopefully :D

your gonna get real heavy real quick.

If you can find a 75 and earlier windshield you can put it on the 78 with little work.

:agree:

You're seriously affecting your center of gravity bud... I love making my own stuff too, but... If anything maybe get into playing fiberglass or maybe carbon fiber?

yeah but in reality im only going to have it on when on the road ie. daily driver stuff. if i do go off road it more than likely wont be on. but thanks i hadnt really thought of that

Be careful when cornering, ie freeway entrance /exits. Speed rolls a cj when the center of gravity gets too high.

Also, steel / sheetmetal will rattle like crazy.

Ive seen pleanty of roof racks, so im not saying "don't" do it, just understand what you'll be doing...
