Hi All,

I'm rebuilding my AMC 304 , bored .030 over, new stock pistons, crank turned .010 on rods and mains, edelbrock performer intake, carb, and cam, also edelbrock timing chain set. The dilema I'm having, I ordered new cam and dist. gear (omix-ada) they don't fit cam or dist. I'm getting lots of conflicting information about to replace the gears or use the old ones that came out of the engine. What do I do ????? I've heard lots of horror stories of new gears failing right away. I have to send my flywheel in to get resurfaced and was wondering about sending the new gears in and have the ID turned to match the ID of the old gears so I can use the new gears in my engine. Please Help any info greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Sorry I didn't see this earlier! I've been on vacation for around 3 weeks. Marriage and Cruise... :D

Omix gears wont fit (as you know) ;)

I ordered them after my original gears ate eachother up after distributor swap.

I went back to Summit Racing (who I ordered the omix gears from) and told them they didn't fit, and eventually after some negotiations got a smoking deal on the MSD set. They worked perfectly. Bull tear also offers a heavy duty matched set... I don't have personal experience with them though. I can tell you for sure the MSD ones work.

Here was my thread for issue:

linked you straight to the post where i found the same problem where you are.

Let me know if you have any questions!

To add, if your old gears are ok, and both fit, you "can" re-use them... But with everything you are doing, i would replace and let them mate to eachother from the start, and avoid possibly not shimming exactly where they were before.

Bull tear gears i also mentioned:
Bulltear-Online

but again, i can't speak personally on those, just the MSD ones. They're still working perfectly as far as I can tell ;)

thanks for the info, a buddy of mine has a machine shop and I had him machine the new gears out to the same dimentions of the gears that came off and they fit like a glove. Hopefully I don't have problems.
Thanks again.
