i can get my computer to read my memory card from my camera:mad: this sucks.

I hated Vista until SP1 - then - never a problem. x32 or x64?

sorry cj im not a computer guy i have no clue what x32 or x64 means. i just know how to get on the internet, pictures, and music.

As CJ mentioned Vista is much better with Service Pack 1. MS now has Service Pack 2.
If your not a computer guy that just means get the updates for your computer.
Go to Start - All Programs - Windows Updates.
You need the updates but there is still no guarantee this will fix your problem. It could be a problem with your memory card or its connection to your PC.
Does the memory card work on other computers?

i only have my lap top so i dont know if it works on other computers. my wife dont like doing updates cause the last service pack screwed up our computer.

Well the lack of an update is screwing up your computer.
You are much better off updating your computer. If something goes wrong you can uninstall the service pack in Add-remove Programs.

well i did the serves pack and it didnt help. if i put the card in nothing. go to computer settings and it shows up. click on it and it says to insert card but the icon shows up?

Has it worked in the past?
If so do you have a copy of windows? Full version?

Vista was designed to totally protect non nerd type users. but it goes way to far, that is why everyone hates it
I love it, and I do not have any service pacs, however I go into any OS when i get it and turn all the switches the way I want them to be.
My friends complain about auto upgrades shutting them down, I turn off that function for them, they com=lain about this, I tell them how to turn it off or on, then about that, once again I show then they have a CONTROL PANEL and they can do whatever they want in there.
So stop being a hater and experiment, but before experimenting do a backup and mark it as the default backup so you can always undo everything you have done.:chug:

I hate vista like grim death. The most power hungry over complicated loaded with garbage bloatware miserable POS Microsoft has shoved up our arse yet

Dale Fan, have you tried a reboot? Also, do use the remove hardware wizard when you pull the memory card out? IF you do not, it can cause issues of recognizing the card when you insert it, and MOST of the time, a roboot will fix it. Otherwise, when you have the card installed, you have to go into the device manager and remove the card, then reinsert it so that it reinstalls the card. This is not a Vista issue, but a Windows issue. I have seen all OS's do this same thing. That should take care of it for you.:chug:

wow all the stuff you guys are saying is way over my head. this compute is mrsdalefans baby so i dont want to go in stuff and change it and screw it up then get my *** chewed out by mrsdalefan. it did work before.

when i go into my computer i click on the memory pro icon for my card. clicked open and it says to reformat the disk. when i reformat it, it says windows was unable to fomat it

Your computer is having a hard time reading your memory card. Does the memory card work in other computers? The problem may not be your computer.

This raises a red flag for me. Is this the type of card that you physically remove from the camera, and then plug into the computer? Or is it one that you use a cable to connect to the computer? Also, have you checked the device manager to see if it is actually recognizing the card? If you can find the time during the week, you could PM me. I am starting to think there might be an issue with the card, not the PC.

I'm going to ask this again:
Does the memory card work in other computers? The problem may not be your computer.

it is one that you take out of the camera and put it in the slot in the computer. it does recognize it in device manager.
