First off let me say im not a big fan of doing this. Whats your guys thoughts about installing used ring gears and pinions?

Yes it will be in a jeep. If it was in a mustang or high performance vehicle I wouldn't even ask the question.

I did rear used and no issues as of yet. Just gave a good look for wearing, chipping and cracks. I also went this way as it was my first attempt at gearing and figured I would rather ruin a cheap set if I screwed up :D

I chipped stock gears on lesser trails than I do now so they have worked well.

What do you guys think is a fare price on a set front and back?

I'm running used gears in the rear of mine now and will be using used gears in the front when I change to the 44. I don't have a problem with used but not abused..
As for price I think anything less than half price. I see prices around $75 - 100 alot of times. If you know they have good bearings on them than they would be worth more.

Chances are you are going the wreck the bearings pulling them off to shim the pinion or carrier.

No chips or cracks is most important.

I ran used gears in a supercharged mustang and had no problem.

Its hard to get a decent pattern though. It'll just show up how they have been running. Sometimes you just have to look at the coast side.

Do your gears make any excessive noise like howling?

They did at first; only for about 50 miles though. My buddy gave them to me for free so I wasn't too worried about it. They quieted down to normal after that. I was always wondering about them but I beat the hell out of that car and never had a problem.

I think I'll run them for 1000 miles drop the oil see if they are wearing wierd.
