I have an 80 CJ7 with the 2.5 iron duke, it's been sitting for a couple years and I lost the carb for it. I was thinking of rebuilding the engine but I found a used one locally and was thinking of getting that instead. The used one I found has the carb on the opposite side of the engine than mine does is this something I could swap into my jeep?

Are you sure both are Iron Dukes?

The one I had in my '80 was on the drivers side.

Rocky, the '81 Iron Duke had a computer for the Ca. versions. Check for any electrical plug fittings as it might be a computer controlled carb.

Since your in PRK-I would be concerned about being SMOG compliant.

IIRC, if the carb is on the passenger side, and the exhaust is on the driver's side: The engine is the GM 2.5L 'Iron Duke' 4cyl.

The AMC 2.5L 4cyl had the carb and the exhaust on the driver's side.

The AMC would have been the OEM 4cyl 1984-1986 in CJ's.

Confession - Yeah know, the more I think about it, the more I'm sure I don't really remember which side the carb was on. It has been ~30 years since I had an Iron Duke
