1980 CJ-7with 258, SR4 4 speed transmission, stock everything that I can tell.
I have a 1980 CJ7 (I need to update my profile) & am chasing electric gremlins. I need to replace the front left fog light & right rear brake light since the wires short out as I drive. I know there are several replicas that are for sale but most I've found are cheap Chinese knock offs. Would it be worth buying LED replacements for the fog lights & tail lights? Any experience & recommendations would be appreciated!

I went LED they mount with a rubber grommet.

I love LED lights! Just look at any new cop car, they really stand out. Also if you burn out a regular bulb, no light. With an LED, you can burn out several of the individual LEDs and still have a functional light. Some things to be aware of though, LEDs and regular lights don't play well together, so a special flasher or a LED resistor may be needed, and don't go with the LED bulbs, most don't work as well as a regular bulb. Always use the complete LED assembly instead. That being said, IMHO LEDs are the lights we will all be using in the future both at home and in our automobiles. Rod

My '80 CJ7 has weak tail-stop-and-turn lights. I'm running new 2-way wires from the fusebox to the hot lead and back to a battery ground. Body grounds just won't hack it after 30plus years.

I recently put a brand new pair of LED tail lights on my 80 CJ5 . Got them for around $140. All I had to do was unbolt the old taillight housing, unplug the old lights and the replacements bolted and plugged right in. The kit also came with a replacement flasher unit specifically for the LEDs. They work great. I also put in LED headlights and they are outstanding.

If you have weak turn sigs as in 'dim'. Clean and renew the gnd wire at each tail light. Also, the brake lights are routed through the turn signal switch.
Been run'n rear LED for 15 yrs now. One of the best mods I have ever done.
BTW-You will need to get a 'motorized' type flasher, as the LED doesn't 'build' enough load to cycle the OEM type flasher.
