Got done wiring my horn and naturally the one on the jeep doesn't work. So, I took a trip to the local Autozone and got one of theirs, it's listed as being very loud. Wires it up and, yes it does make noise, but not much and only ..... well it sounds horrible. Have you had a decent experience with an after market horn and where did you get it? As a side question, where is the stock horn located on a '75? The one on my '75 is on the firewall and the sound vibrating on the firewall is ugly.

Not sure about original location on yours, but on latter 80's its right on top of drivers side fender. I too need a new horn, so I'll keep an eye on this thread.Mine still has a little life left but it sounds like it belongs on a barbie car :o

The 75's horn is indeed on the top of the driver's fender, near the grille.

IIRC they changed the CJ horn in 76-77 - the older ones sound "a little more 'ol timey" whereas the later ones sound like every other 70's/80's "big 3" car horn.

How do.you have it wired? Should go through a relay to get power directly to it. Try grounding it directly onto the battery and use a wire from the + terminal to activate it. Make sure you have a good ground for it too.

this is what I have and yes it should be run through a relay, the horn button is not really designed to deal with any amperage to speak of.:D

You don't want this thing to sound when you have your head under the hood so don't wire it to power until the last step.

If you get polarity wrong it is just plain sad so if it sounds more like a croke than a blast that may be your problem.

I mounted mine on the drivers side fender. not exactly where it was originally but close enough.

I purchased this horn for 1975 CJ5 .

The bracket is slightly different than the original so I drilled out the rivets on the original, unbolted the bracket from the replacement, and bolted it all together: old bracket, new horn. I think it sounds close what the original did when new which probably isn't great, but it's what I wanted.
