Can anyone tell me the how to locate the MORE motor mounts in a 1985 CJ7 ? (Chevy v8 Conversion). What I mean is, there are 6 holes in the frame, which holes do I use? 2 that are closet to the front of the frame? , closest the back of the frame? or the ones in the middle? I have the passenger one mounted to the 2 holes that are the furthest away from the front, I also had to notch the front axle bump stop bracket, (this was in the MM directions) but after that I'm lost...I will add some pics later...everything lines up where the MM 's are at now but they will also line up if I move them to the middle holes and the front holes.. If anyone has done this any help is appreciated...

I did, the response from Steve was, is everything lined up? and its got plenty of clearance? Then you should be fine.. Depending on what holes you bolt these these up to you can move the engine forward anywhere from an 1" to 3 "...

I just want to make sure before I do weld them...

Can you drill the mounts??
I have MORE eng mounts in my AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l /CJ7 and they are very well made.
Been run'n them for about 15 yrs now.

Does look as if you will have to weld'em.
Make sure everydangthing else lines up and go for it.
Good luck,

Lumpy, do you think they are in the right holes? Both motor mounts can move forward 2 more sets of holes...this weekend I'm going to set the body and radiator onto the frame and take some measurements.

My thought is, if you like where the engine and Transmission is, lock'em down. I'd mount the grill and the radiator first, if possible the tub too. Those are the critical points.

I do have a question. The mounts are big and super strong no question about that. However given the price and that they are manufactured they look a little crude in the finish department. Did you have to refinish them with an aggressive wire wheel for some reason? Eventually my CJ will have a set of these mounts so I'm curious as to what they really look like.

HH-Go to the link I post'd and you'll see that they are first class.
Dep-Have no clue, as I have never installed a SBC in a CJ.
HH is correct in mounting the radiator and maybe the body tub for a clearance ck.

Straight out of the box thats how they came...I think the pics on their web site might be Zinc plated? Or the direct bolt on ones...not sure. I know they cost more $$ but they are stout. Purty sells...

The ones on the website are definitely plated, I don't think it's zink, it's that nice professional looking yellow coating. That's why I asked. Yours look like raw steel with no coating. I'd paint them if I were you.

Sticking a Chevy in your jeep makes it difficult to answer your question. One thing I'd do though. If at all possible set your Transmission in it's stock position, this will preserve your stock driveshaft lengths. Then assemble enough body to make absolutely sure the engine fits in the engine compartment. If not then you need to move things around until it does. No matter what, do your best to keep things simple. The fewer non-stock parts the better.

As has been said, I would mount everything up including the body to make sure that's where you want them before doing any welding.

I have them in my 79 CJ7 with the chevy 350 engine. I have them bolted with the existing holes. I had to drill a hole on one of the frame mounts and either one or two on the other frame mount (mounts came with only 3 holes). I did the build around 7 rears ago and never had to weld them in. Welding is mainly if you have to move them forward or rearward so you move away from the frame holes that are sleeved. If your year has the same holes as the 79 and also 82 (CJ8 I'm building now and just mounted the mounts in the frame) you should be able to use the holes in the frame for a early 80's generation 350.

Did you use the frame cross-bar that goes under the engine like used in the 4 and 6 cyl engines for you SBC?

Not on the 79. It didn't have one (previous owner did a lot of half *** stuff so I wouldn't be surprised if he removed it). I have not had any problems with it and I have a 330 hp engine factory engine installed. It probably would be a good idea to install one if it will fit (I can try since the CJ8 I'm building had the bar).

Thx-I do think it is a good thing to run, if you can.
