Well Im still trying to get the top on the T-176 . I cant line up the shift forks right I'll get the top on and the shifter WONT move or it wont go into second gear.
I bumped the engine over with the starter the other day and with the shifter in neutral the 7 wanted to move So far Ive had the top on and off at least 8 times and it still does the same thing. Some how I think the gears are not in the neutral position when I put the top on and it binds the shifter
Can any one thell me what gear this pos is in ??

your 3-4 slider is in high and your 1-2 slider is in second gear. The Transmission is locked at this point. You need to move each slider one "notch" toward the rear of the Transmission . You should see all four brass synchro rings when you are in neutral.

Thank you RREKR I followed some good advice out of these forums "TRIAL and Error" after about 10 times shifting every thing around in the trany I got the top to go back on and it will cycle through all the gears and the Jeep moves in the direction its supposed to!
In Any case I learned alot about a T-176 in the last 3 days. But tell me one more thing, Which is the "1& 2 slider" and Which is the "3&4"?

I'm glad you got it going. Because of the interlocks on the shifter mechanism if you can shift as you describe it has to be correct. In your pictures, the 3-4 slider is to the left, closest to the bell housing.

I was having the same issue putting mine back together after replacing the shifter lug on the 3-4 shift rod. Thanks for the pictures AL Linder and how to know when the Transmission is in neutral rrekr. This forum is a huge help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Thank you so much for the advise. We have taken the T-176 out of our CJ7 twice now and are going to do what you have told Al Linder and hope it works for us too.
