Hello

My CJ will die when I go over a speedbump, rocks, etc. If I go really slow 2mph everything is fine. After it dies it starts right back up. I checked and could not find any loose wires.

Any ideas where to check next?

Thank you

You running an edelbrock carb is your problem. Need to check the float hight and install an offroad kit. My CJ5 had an edelbrock it was the same way tell I did that.

:)Humm.............doesn't like the sudden altitude change?? Check your altimeter........(LOL) just a joke!

Got to be a loose or broken connection somewhere........check your battery might be a battery post that is broken / loose on either the Plus or minus side..............start there and trace the wires to the Ignition. coil wire or perhaps the primary wire's to the coil..........any add on Iginition electronics??

Good Luck!

Hello Tarry

Thank you I will check the Ignition wires. I don't think there are any add on electronics.

Hello Cold Air

Please, how do I check the float and what am I looking for?

Also can you recommend any offroad kits? I don't know what to look for. Sorry, I'm a newbie.

Thanks

Nice. What kind of speed bumps we talking. Some can get pretty big.

Some of these types of problems are hard to figure out.

Don't think it's the carb, but more electrical.

Run a wire to coil power side into the cab and put a 12v light in line and ground

Now go hit a bump. Light blink?

Aftermarket ignition? Try hooking the light to the ignition module.

Power side of the key. Sometimes the ignition with a ton of keys on it will wreck it.

When you find it,you will really feel good! :D

When i bought mine i had the same issues.
Found a worn out screw that couldn't be fixed correctly at the distributor cap.

Possibly a centimeger/inch problem since i live in germany.
Fixed that, no more dying on bumps.

"hope" you have a similar cause.

Gtx from germany

It was the coil wires. They were loose. Thank you
