Howdy all! I have an 84 CJ7 with a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . I put a weber carb on it and electronic ingnition and it runs great. The only problem is the block has developed a crack just behind the water pump. I was going to buy a new long block but a friend that owns a machine shop has a 1978 AMC 232 i6 long block that was redone but never picked up. He is willing to let me have it CHEAP! My question is "will it fit in my 84 CJ with my intake/exhaust". All my research says yes but I appreciate any help.

I'd guess the money you think you're going to save will get consumed by all the other little parts you'll have to replace to get everything to work. It's the accumulation of the little details that add up.
