So after spending a few hours poking around the CJ I hit the road and at around 35 mph the hood flew open!!

Apparently I forgot to set the hood catches before taking off... :(

Now the cowl is pushed in a bit and my new paint job has a couple good dings there. Kinda scary. Also sucks that after buying a replacement (used) hood to fix that same looking dent on the first hood it happened in the first couple weeks of being a driver. Oh well, it was never perfect anyway.

I can't imagine I'm the first jeep owner to go through that little ordeal...

Get your shorts cleaned out Yet?
I put on some aftermarket latches 3 months ago and one broke going down the road. The other held so I'm looking for another solution.
Maybe put a switch on yours tied into the coil wire so it won't start till its closed.
Maybe a better day tommorrow
Mike

Ive been there. first time wasnt a jeep, but my moms toyota coupe. destroyed the glass and the hood both.
my Jeep has the center catch, or Id have a collection of broken windshields sitting around! lol

What's bad is I came out the store the guy says nice jeep as he walks by, I was like thanks ?!?!? Then soon as I hit the road BOOM.

Wow, all of a sudden I feel pretty grateful nothing worse happened. the lip of my bikini top popped out of the windshield channel a bit but I didn't even think about what could have happened to the glass...

sorry to everyone who has shared this feeling but at least I'm not the only one lol.

This thread is starting to turn into a 'bummer' thread. I will take out the ballpeen and a dolly and try to straighten it out a bit more, maybe a little blue touch up also.
