Hello

I want to get a simple(read low cost+ easy to install) bumper for my CJ5 . Currently it just has a flat pc of metal. see photo below. Any recommendations?

Also how do I determine how much lift my Jeep has?

Thank you

I used 2x4x3/16" wall rectangular tubing. Then used 1/2x3" flat plate to mount to the outside of the frame, (had to cut 2 slots in the rear crossmember), and slots in the inside (closest side to the frame) of the 2x4 tube. Then welded welded the flat to the 2x4 tube. I bolted the flat to the frame with a 1/4" flat nut plate on the inside of the frame rail.

Tough as nails. Got 2 quarter panels of idjits pulling out in front of the Jeep with no damage to the tube.

Bonus - put your High Lift into the end of the tube as a darn good jacking point.

:D

I found a cute step-type bumper from a 60s Chevy pickup on craigslist for $25.

I used a piece of 3" angle iron from a local scrap yard. Welded a tow reciever with some gussets, It is also connected to the frame with brackets behind the 4 bolts on each side.

+1 on the channel iron. My 80' CJ5 came with that. The original hitch loop has been relocated from the original brackets to the channel.
