Need help w/electric choke

I have a Haynes manual, but the choke stuff is greek ta me. When the engine is cold, it sounds like it's turning 3K rpms. It wouldn't idle down unless I rap the gas peddle. What's the STM's auto choke adjustment?

Is it an electric choke or an automatice (mechanical) choke. Mechanical chokes have a screw that will adjust the choked rpm. Hitting the gas will kick off the choke.
