hey,

my wiper motor stopped working, so i replaced it with a new 4 wire motor, the same as what was in it. once i plugged it in and turned the key on, it started working with the switch off. so, i bought a new switch, and i still have the same problem. so, i let the windshield down to see if i had pinched the wiring and had a short, but everything looks fine. so, what would cause the wiper to work with the switch in the off position anytime the key is on? thanks for any help with this. i am just about complete with the rebuild, but now its the little things like this that are killing me. the wiper pump doesnt work, and thats fine with me, but could that be causing the problem? if so, which wires are for the washer pump and i will cut them to remove that as a potential problem. thanks for any help.

It sounds like you are wired wrong at the switch itself
Dont cut the reservoir motor wires out....they will come in handy when you go to replace that $10 pump

CJim7,

the harness looks stock to me, and the connector male/female ends hooks up to the switch no problem. i am at my wits end on this one. when i bought the jeep, it worked. about a week later, i went to get the state inspection and it just stopped working then. when it stopped, it stopped about half way through the stroke, not in the full up or down position. so, i figured it was the motor and bought another one. first time i hooked it up and turned on the key, it turned itself on with the switch in the off position. i cleaned up the old switch, but no dice so i ordered a new switch and have the same problem still. once the key is on and it starts moving on its own, the switch has no bearing on the motor, you cant go to high speed or anything. if i have to cut the 4 wires on the motor and connect them individually to the pins on the switch, i guess i can do that. does anyone have the schematic that says what each of the four wires does and what each pin on the switch controls? thanks for the reply.

the best diagrams I have seen for WW motors are on the auto zone web site.

what would cause the wiper to work with the switch in the off position anytime the key is on?
The wiper switch doesn't turn the wiper off. The motor turns itself off.
Odd as that sounds the switch puts 12 volts to the motor even when the switch is off (as long as the key is on). The wiper motor then completes it's cycle. A switch inside the motor then turns off the motor when the wiper is out of the way.
I found this wiring diagram but I think it only adds to the confusion.

I say the motor is the problem.
