I have a Unilite Dist. :) How do I get my tach to work again? Is there an easier way than buying and ignition box and adapter???????

This is the only bump ill do. Find it hard to believe that no one has gone to a mallory or msd unilite.

It is difficult to answer your question because the answer can easily come out as being rude. Make your life easy if it requires an adaptor, buy the adaptor. Having never worked with your set-up that is the best answer I can give you.

I understand that, but the adapter isnt the issue. 30 dollar part. Its the whole MSD ignition setup thats the problem. I dont currently have it. I just have the distributor.

Is it an aftermarket tach? Most aftermarket electronic tachometers I know of can read a signal off the negative coil post.

Pulled this up on the interweb -- so you may want to check your own resources. :chug:

Red wire would go to coil negative -- as stated before. That's how every other aftermarket tachometer gets its signal.

EDIT: Then again, just found this one on Jeep Forum:

tachometer_sketch.webp

Might take a little more searching...

EDIT AGAIN:

Found this one here:

Looks like actually coil positive will do the trick. Coil negative may just be with aftermarket tachs.

Heh...I never even noticed that in the vehicle info...I'd honestly have to see/hear it to believe it! :chug: Not trying to be a jerk, just saying...

First off, the factgory cam is junk. Ive got a cam, head work, high compression pistions, steel crank, ill find the list. Like i said, theres over 5k in the motor not including getting the motor.

Well, it does make noise with a little throat in it. I'd like to see those horses pushing your Jeep down the road. Those side dump pipes would drive me crazy. ....... but I'm old.

I'm geared really high...it'll push faster than what's safe

Thanks! yeah, it's healthy. .670 lift solid roller, forged rods and pistons, steel crank, aluminum heads, victor jr. intake, Holley 850 HP carb... It'll stand up and go, that's for sure
