I have a 79 CJ5 with AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l inline 6. Last week I dropped the gas tank and replaced the fuel sender unit thinking that would get my gas gauge to work. Gauge is still not working but that's not a big issue for me. The biggest issue now is that the jeep wont start. I replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, and lines, getting gas into the carb but wont fire up. I checked the plugs and I am getting spark....Any advise would work....Thanks

Are you sure that you got the hoses back on the tank right? Blow back through the return line and if you can hear bubbles, You've got them wrong.

I did the same thing last year. Ended up that the fuel lines were pinched between the top of the tank and the hangers. Try loosening the hanger straps and wiggle the fuel lines out away from the straps.

Also, if your sending unit didn't fix the issue it may be the ground wire from your sending unit to ground or from your gage to ground. If neither of those, your gage is probably burned up

Bet you either crossed the lines or they are pinch'd.
Can you blow trough the line that feeds the fuel pump(take the gas cap off first;))

Along the lines of what the others have said but… Do you have a return line installed or did the PO remove the return? Unfortunately this is not uncommon. Do you have a dual outlet fuel filter? It will have one inlet and two outlets. When installing the filter make sure the second off centered outlet is installed all the way up so only true overflow returns to the tank. Also note the picture showing the fuel and temperature gages and the wire that runs between the two. Often fuel gage issues start here. Also I included the diagnostic path. :chug:

Here is the shot from the tech manual for the gas tank too.
