what axles will bolt up to a 78 CJ7 without too much fabrication i have the quadritrac drive-train but id like to get rid of it if possible but keep the Transmission ...

thanks
ps. comments about spelling/grammar/punctuation, are unnecessary this is an informal place. :chug:

Most axles will require moving the spring perches at least. Axle choice really depends on what you plan on using the Jeep for.

If your into high horse mud-bogging with big tires, perhaps Dana 60's are in order.
If rock-crawling with 35" or bigger meats is your game, the 60's are again a good choice.
If mild trail riding and light mudding with 33" tires is your thing I'd do Dana 44 's.

As far as the Quadra-trac goes, you can most likely get a adapter from Advance Adapters or Novak, to install a Dana 20 or Dana 300 Transfer Case .

Just my .02

yeah i dont do much off roading just some sand stuff in Michigan but i want it to be as reliable as possible and ive been thinking about puting a 350 in it.

Your 30 and 20 will hold up as long as you put one piece axles in the 20.
Now if you going to be jumping it at silver lake I've seen Dana 44 's bite the dust, so all bets are off.

hahaha well yeah thats a given... i dont plan on jumping it i just want to make shure its gunna be reliable up there, do you go up there too "old dog"

The easyest swap would be waggy Dana 44 axles but they are quite abit wider than your narrow traks IIRC about 8". you would have to outboard the springs to make them work. You could always look for a cj Dana 44 rear which would bolt right in. All this only if you do away with the qtrak t/c.

Yes I use to go to silver lake with the midnite mudrunners but haven't been there for quite awhile. I keep trying to talk the club I'm in now into going up there but it's a long way from here.

yeah i love it up there, i just started taking the jeep up there this year. the motar wasnt running right so couldnt drive it alot soo thats why im looking into changeing the tcase, axles, and motar i wanna make it a streetable sand toy, "i dont mud with it", ik thats sicking to hear but around here it more car shows then mudding

ps, what cj's came with the Dana 44 's and are they a bolt in? what tcase should i use as well?

IIRC the 44 came in 76 and earlier and should bolt right in.

Didn't some 86's come with 44's as well?
