My drivers side rear body mount has deteriorated to the point of not doing its job of holding up the body. This leads me to separation of the frame & body in order to do some cutting, welding and general rebuilding of the body mount bracket. While I am doing this I want to rework my body mounts. Right now I have cracked and squashed stock body mounts along with 2 hockey pucks at each location that the PO installed. I would like to change to more conventional 1" lift body mounts then also get larger 1" shackles to make up the difference. Any info you guys can give me on feedback of mounts or shackles would be highly appreciated. I deeply respect the knowledge and experience of all of you on this forum.:notworthy:

definitely not to argue but i put the 1" bodylift on my jeep out of quad catalog and honestly see no reason to lower radiator. Maybe its a radiator hose thing. i also added 1.5 shackles which i know most are against. ( will say that i have not taken it offroad yet, still working on the jeep)

I should have been more clear:o If you are run'n a shroud on the radiator. You will have to at least lower the shroud for fan blade clearance.

The way I see it installing 1" body lift includes resetting gas filler lines, adjusting the clutch, adjusting brake line clamps on the firewall, checking to see if the gear shifters have full travel, just about anything that connects the body to the frame. Along with moving the radiator. I do like the clearance it provides to help wash the mud out, more room behind the back of the valve cover, and more room for the hoses into the steering gear box. The shifter boots do get more of a workout also.

The only thing I had to do when I installed my 1" lift, was to move the radiator down some.

You will have issues with the steering shaft, fuel inlet hose, possibly shift linkage issues. Anything attached to the body really. I was able to find work around solutions, but the fuel inlet was a pain.

ok, going back to cutting , fab, and welding, what does it look like ? the easy part is deciding what shackles and stuff, what repairs are u looking at?

Not really sure what all I will get into. I have not looked at each body mount location yet. I just know that the rear drivers side is not doing its job any more. That is what is driving this whole deal. My CJ is not my DD so I figure I will start tearing into it and see what comes. It may take a month or two. I will need to cut out a section of the body under the license plate to get rid of the rust patch that has developed. I will also need to rebuild the mount behind that patch so it will be a fab as I go deal. I may cut out a section of body big enough to completely get rid of the existing mount(whatever is left). Then go from there. I'm not a very good welder so I am hoping to hone my skills a bit with this project.

tough place to be in for a daily driver. Get the best penetrate you can and go ahead and spray all of the body mount bolts the best you can. that might save you time. not to scare you but i had to fab up and repair new cages (not sure what else to call them)for the nuts that are permanently attached. the body fasteners tend to spin. being a Daily driver i would also be prepared for a safe temp repair, depending on what you find. hopefully it will go very smooth. as far as the welding goes its better to have full penetrating not so good looking welds rather than ineffective pretty welds.

my bad, NOT your DD, sweet
