New Oil Pan Gasket Going On

So, I have everything that I need to change out my leaky gasket tomorrow morning. Anything I need to be aware of or look out for? I know that I'll have to drop the starter and raise the engine a bit...

Sounds like fun....I always preferred to use just a bit of thread lock when I install the bolts. And btw, just in case you are picky like I am, the torque specs for the bolts are 5-8 ft-lbs if you have the 1/4in bolts and 10-12 ft-lbs if you have the 5/16 bolts. I have to pay attention to that, or I tend to honk down on fasteners and crush gaskets.

Make sure you have all of the old gasket scraped off well on both the block and the pan. I always use some high temp rtv on both sides of the cork just for insurance as well as a spot on each bolt. be sure you dont over tighten the bolts and use sequencing when tightening them down.

Ditto, don't tighten them too tight or you squish the gasket out. I used blue loc tight last time I did my I6.
