i guys new jeep owner and i want to remove the fiberglass body from my 1974 CJ5 to replace the frame that looks like swiss cheese. #1 how body bolts are there and where. #2 do i have to take the front fenders and grill off first or can i leave the whole body intact and pull it off as a unit. the reason i ask is this thing is really rusty. there are more questions to come i am sure but i as a old coot that wont give up until it's done. I have a 71 (it's not fiberglass) that I took the body off of about 2 weeks ago. It works much better if you take the front fenders and grill off first. Crawl underneath and you will see about 8 bolts that hold the body pan to the frame. I had to grind a couple of the bolts off mine but it wasn't too bad of a job.

Good luck

Yea take the fenders and grill off. As darrel said there should be 3 or 4 bolts on each side of the body.

if you have a 2 post lift to use you can leave the fenders on.. if your doing it in the garage fenders off.
