Engines runs OK in my 61 CJ5 , just reinstalled with a new distributor, 134 F-head, but has no power under load, can't seem to get enough advance. Will the engine run good if the distriburetor has been put in 180 out? Going to see were # 1 lands, when I check #1 for compression, ( rotor) and see if its where the book says #1 is.

:)Motor will not run if the distributor is in 180 degrees off since it would now be on the exhaust cycle.

Get the motor back to TDC on #1 cylinder compression stroke ( pull all the plugs put your finger over the #1 spark plug hole and slowly rotate the motor as #1 comes up on the compression / firing stroke you will feel pressure on your finger.........now look at your timing mark at the crank....take a cheater bar and slowing rotate the crank until you can get the timing marks lined up to whatever timing you want before TDC).........Pull your cap on the distributor...........rotor should be pointing to #1 plug wire.........if not do not rotate crank any further you will have to pull the distributor and rotate or rewire the cap.........either way you can get there. If motor is still a DOG look for vacuum leaks or perhaps your advance in your new distributor is not working.

Thanks, found the trouble, spark plugs fired OK at no to some load, but didn't under a hard load, new set of J8c makes it run good!
