Trying to get the choke operational on my 83 cj. Stock carb and a lot of :dung: hanging off of it. I know there is only voltage to the choke when the oil is cool. I have power to the oil sender plug on 1 side but not on the other. So nothing to the joke. Im thinking the sender is bad. How do i check the sender? Who ever came up with this carb should be shot. This is a calif model. And it is a nightmare. Thought about a manual choke but there is so much stuff in the way for the hook up. Any thoughts other than selling it.

I'd suggest using a multimeter to see if you get any voltage at all from your oil sender. I used a 12v test light and got nothing, but my multimeter told the real story. The sender is only giving me 6v. The choke still heats up with just 6v, so I'm not going to worry about it.

If your 83 stock carb is the Carter BBD, you might consider an upgrade to the Motorcraft or Weber carbs. You can get them set up with heat chokes or manual rather than electric.
