Im doing some maint checks on my FI and wiring. Sitting with the key on not running the battery has 12.7 ,the fuse block about 12.62, the FI fuse block 11.77 which may be no so good and the coil + side 6.7ish. Fire it up and batts says 14.3, FI block is .2V less and now the coil is 10. 5 or so. Everything else I can write off to 32 year old wiring, to much resistance, bad connections,bla.. but the coil @ 10 volts???? is that right?

alot of coils use a ballast resistor to lower incoming voltages

With the exception of the Howell FI the ignition and the rest is stock, I do not believe these ran resistors in the systems did they?

the original coil wiring on the jeep seemed like it was spliced a hundred times to feed power to everything under the hood, sounds to me that your problem is in your power wire connection….trying to find my wiring diagram

So your sayin its nit right :o...thank you for the diagram as well. Gonna have to dig the glasses out and study it some. This isnt the only vehicle including a Buell that used what looks like glue and duct tape to splice wires in places you typically wont see unless you peel back the harness covering.

That duct tape is to protect the distributor wires to the pick up coil from any outside interference. It sounds like the resistance wire from the alternator to the coil is a bit on the short side. The low voltage to the Howell fuse block is probably losing power as it comes thru the fuse block, this also affects the fuel pump voltage.
