nutter bypaas yes or no

in my build of my CJ7 , I have wanted to know whether I should do this bypass . The jeep will not have a catalytic converter with air tube (removed) but is a AMC 150 4 cyc . new rebuild , I plan on blocking the vacuum for the the vacuum switches on the firewall that fed the system for this and will probably move the vacuum advance feed for a vacuum to a better source , so will the bypass help this or is it necessary ? sorry for the noobe question but this is my first go on a jeep

Im pretty sure you can not nutter the 4cyl..

I don't know why you can't do it if it has a Ignition Module and a Computer. Because all you are doing is wiring the Ignition Module direct to the dissy and taking the Computer out of the mix.

I say do it! I did that to my '86 CJ7 (6cyl -AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l ) and that is the best thing I have done to it yet.
I junked the original carb and went with a weber and did the nutter and she runs so much better now it's incredible! Granted, I was somewhat forced to do it because my computer was starting to go out, causing it to run rough at times, even started to kill power for a split second while driving down the road... no more!
I yanked all the vacuum hoses and "emissions" equipment that came on the '86 when I did that too, so my engine looks 1000x's cleaner than before also, which was my second motivator. I'm a fan.

tks for the responses,,I am pretty sure it can be done to the 4 cylinder from the research I have done,,the 2 ignition wires are the same and they hook up the same as a 6 cylinder,,the engine was shot when I got it and ran ok,,I now have it rebuild and just waiting untill I get more work done to the tub since I have if off ,before I can see how she runs now and have heard that the nutter bypass really helps and was looking for the feedback,,looks like I will try it since I am removing the vacuum junk and the weird catalytic converter with the air tubes to the breather, that's the worst setup I have ever come across

Ok I am new to this but what is a "Nutter Bypass" and where do I find out how to do it? I too would like to remove my compter and all the vacume lines etc.

Google nutter bypass. It will take out the comp and almost all the vacuum lines.

If it has a computer you can do it. The point of this is to take the computer out of the loop.

I just got my '85 CJ7 back on the road after a year of restification work. I did the bypass on mine and read how to modify the Carter 1bbl carb on the Jeep Cherokee forum. I am in the process of checking my gas mileage now. One touch of the accel pedal when cold and it fires right up. When warm just start to crank and it starts and idles perfect. The wire color out of the computer was light blue instead of purple on my CJ7 . Here's the link that gives you the carb mods.
