my kid just got his first jeep, its got a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l IL6 and he had to replace a piston and now the rear of the oil pan won't stop leaking.he said it only leaks after he shuts it off, nothing comes out while its running.he tried the cork gasket and now hes got just silacone on it.

I'm guessing you changed the gasket with the engine in? If so that's one of the hardest things to do since your working with gravity. Try sealant that sets up quick is about all I can recommend

If the pan has any signs of being dented, replace it.

I once had a dented pan on my TJ that sealed fine until the first time I had to remove/replace it and then it would never seal up correctly again. Where the dents were (bottom) wouldn't seem to have any effect on it sealing in the rear but it sure did.

Also make sure it isn't the rear seal. I had a 360 that would absolutely piss oil on the ground - but only right after the motor was stopped after being driven a bit. On a cold start or while driving it didn't have any problems. Most of the time that type of leak sounds more like the pan or valve cover but it was the rear seal oddly enough.
