I'm considering going to one-piece axles in my CJ. I have less than 50k on this Jeep so there can't be much wear, but I'm taking it to Ouray this summer and I'm a little nervous. I'm just running 31's and not doing any overly difficult trails, so I'm not sold on doing this yet.

Anyway - the question - how hard is this to do? Are there any good links or docs out there on doing this?

Im going to go the opposite on this one. Your Cj doesnt look like it has the rust to keep the hub and the axle fused. :D Seriously though I sold my Scrambler to CJ and it spun a hub about a month later. It never had bigger than 31s and showed no real signs of abuse.

You know your going on the Colorado trip. Loosing a wheel and hub down Black Bear Pass could be a problem. ;) Youve got plenty of time to test your new one piece axles out before August. Id do it for the piece of mind betting this wont be the last time your Cj is off road. :chug:

I was just going to say that!

HA!!! That's hilarious!!! What you don't know is that I teach automotive turd polishing at the local vocational school... Ha!

Anyway, as if I didn't need any more input costs to this trip I guess I can't "not" do them.

Easy? Hard? Tools? Hire it out?

Wish I could just weld the hubs I have huh?

If you can read directions, use wrenches and ask questions on this forum I say no problem.
costs in the S300 range if im up to date.

I'm getting ready to replace my Superior one piece axles with Moser axles and my biggest concern is the bearing and press ring being installed correctly. This is where I've heard people messing up? I have never used an Arbor press, but was going to finally buy one. OR, have these pressed on at my favorite off road shop.

It doesn't look to be that complicated.

What's the difference between Superior and Moser?

Moser is still in production, Superior is not. :)

I installed G2 one piece in my 85 CJ7 last summer. It was a easy swap. You will need an axle puller, an if i recall right, the ones that the auto stores rent, don't work. Pressing on the bearing was easy. But like Bugs says, you can always have a shop do the pressing for ya.

True, but is something wrong with your Superiors? Mine were put in in 1998 and are still holding up fine. I have a set of Superior shafts I got in a parts deal that I need to get bearings installed on and put in my other Jeep....

You have a great resource at the school you work at you could have the kids on the automotive tech side do the work. As you know all you have to do is buy the parts they do the rest. Of course I'm assuming if the school has an autobody shop they also have an automotive shop as well. Just a thought.

I found G2 axles locally for a good price, so will be going with G2.
As for the install, I was going to just take the diff in and have it done, I'm a busy guy, but decided to do this myself (except the pressing) Main reason is if I ever have to do this on the trail, I'm going to need the experience!

Looks like the Superiors were installed with a hammer... bearings were worn and seals leaking bad, to replace seals, bearings etc was about $180, new axles kits are $250... AND, I will have spare axles.

Well I was being facetious... I was just saying that I'm so good at polishing a turd cosmetically...ha ha... My apologies.

So where's the best place to buy the kit? Morris?

I'd start with all the big places, but if you look around online some you might find the best deal from an unlikely place. Lately for most of the parts I've been buying , Summit Racing has had the best deals on the parts and $0 for shipping on an order over $99.

I agree with Hole, Do a google search for the part number and find the cheapest price, that go to sumit or jegs both will do a price match and both have free shipping right now.

I just bought a G2 kit from amazon for $203.

007, if I were you I'd go with Moser, after all they are made in Indiana, and worth the couple extra bucks IMO.
