Took some pics of the oil that I have in both of my differentials...hmm the front was fool and a cleary brown color and the back was well kinda empty not dry cause I could stick my finger to the bottom of the wall and feel some oil and one pic of the Transfer Case . Anyways being new to working mechanically on vehicles what is it I need to do?

Thanks for the help you guys.

Wow, that is a strange color in the first pic. The second pic of your finger looks normal.

I am not one of the experts but I would pull the covers and do an inspection. Look for signs of damage or excessive ware, especially on the one that was near dry. Look for blueing on the gear teeth, extreme heat can turn them blue.

What should be in the diffs is gear oil. The weight or viscosity depends but somewhere between 90 - 140wt, just check your manual it should give you specs. They make multi viscosity as well in gear oil. It looks like motor oil only heavier (thicker).

There are plenty of threads on how to pull the diff covers and replace the oil, plenty of youtube videos so you shouldn't have any trouble there. Cover off, clean it up, make a new gasket, put it together, fill her up. Assuming no damage.

Go slow and take pictures or video of what you see, that can help put it back together. Nothing will come flying out at you when the covers come off.

Here are a few pics before and after.

Good luck.

Front looks like it got some water in it. Rear looks fine. Pull both covers to drain the diffs, put them back on and refill.

Thanks everyone.....I will be ordering stuff to do the changes today from Jc Whitney....considering they have free shipping for today on all orders.
