I have a Dana 44 rear Narrow track in my 76 CJ5 . The build is just starting reassebly. I pushed the frame out in reverse. I decided to move the chasis. But the rear axle won't spin forward. Now this is a lunch box locker, and I have yet tom install adequate quantities of differential lube. Is this normal. I went through the whole thing, replaced a axle shaft splines were toast. new brakes hardware drums you name it except for the housing and differential gear set with the locker. Not sure if this is normal. I even took the load off by jackin it up. No forward movement. BTW the axles are the only things on the chassis so its not the Transfer Case or tranny.
Are these axles with lockers installed that hard to turn ...do they need the full compliment of diff lube in order to work?
Thanks in advance.

It should push forward just as easy as it pushed backward.
When both rear wheels are jacked up off the ground, can you turn them by hand?

I would be looking for shrapnel from the axles between the ring and pinion.

To verify just how tough the axles are to rotate by hand, the driveshaft should be removed along with the drums. If it is still hard then you have a problem.

THEY WILL NOT SPIN FORWARD AT ALL WITH THE FRAME JACKED UP. Gonna try removing the drums. And to be clear when I towed the rig forward there was absolutely no forward rotation. But when I pushed it in reverse it was just fine. i KNOW THE DIFF IS TOTALLY CLEAN i HAD IT ON THE BENCH AD BRUSHE IT OUT WITH GAS. tHE LOCKER CLICKS WHEN IT SPINS IN REVERSE. i KNEW I SHOULD HAVE UPGRADED ON THIS BUILD. BTW there are no dive shafts installed yet. I guess I had better take a good look at that locker. Perhaps thre was a reason those splines were spun off the original axle.

THE JEEP SHOULD MOVE!

You need to take a closer look at the rotating components. There is no easy answer here... :(
