its been a while since i have posted on here witch is good becuse that means the cj has not been giveing trouble ,but the rear wheel or axle bearing what ever you want to call it started makeing noise so i went to the parts store and bought seals and bearings and was going to just do both sides but now i know i have moesier one pice axles witch means nothing is the same and my question is what realy retains the axle in the houseing? is it just the pressed on bearing and spacer ring behind it? or is it the backing plate ? just wondering thanks as always

The retaining ring holds the bearing on the axle. (special size on superior axles, and I think on moser"s)
The spacer sets the bearing preload. (don't mix them side to side)
The brake backing plate holds everything in.
Hope this helps.

yes sir it is all back together and running and the best i could tell looking at it thats the way i seen it. It just doesnt seam like the backing plate is that strong but obviesly it has worked for a long time so i am sure it will continue work lol
