Location
South Jersey (yea, someone has to)
Vehicle(s)
79 CJ7... 258 motor... T-18 trans... Dana 20 case... Dana 30 w/ lockrite... AMC 20 w/ detroit and 1 piece axles.
I had to replace the AMC20 in my 79 CJ7 and it took me awhile to get around to putting the new axle back in. Here's my stupid question... it's been a couple weeks and now I can't remember if the end of the shaft with the splines and the yoke goes at the TF case end(top) or the axle end. I don't want to put my shaft in backwards. Thanks

the end of the shaft with the splines and the yoke goes at the TF case end(top)

I'm not sure it makes a difference, but I install mine like you said above.
If it's a double joint it for sure goes at the t/c end.

Thanks Old Dog. I figured having the splines at the diff end wouldn't make sense as it would pick up more dirt and mud, but better to ask first. THanks again:chug:

Thanks also. I figured it was probably the same as my truck. You guys are great ..... as always.

Like others have said, the slip joint does go on the Transfer Case side in the rear, but it goes to the axle side in the front. At least that's the way it's supposed to go according to all the research I did when assembling mine.
