I am in the middle of replacing the stock motorcraft distributor with an HEI setup and taking the opportunity to clean up some wires at the same time.

This Red w/ stripe wire next to the electric choke Red wire is confusing me.

I have a '80 FSM and it's not helpful

I have added a couple pictures of the wire it has rounded black connector on it and of the wire on the FSM.

The wire has not been hooked up, and my guess is it went to something on the original carburetor but came off when the PO put a new carb on. It comes from the oil pressure switch (as does the red wire) but I am just not sure where it's going to.

Thanks for the help!

No. It's open at the end like it originally went on something. Its in the same small wire loom as the electric choke. So i was wondering if a stock Carter carburetor might have 2 wire hookup locations? 1000004400.jpg

My 81 CJ7 had that same wire. On mine, it went from the idle speed controller to the carb.
My oil pressure switch had power in, red wire out to a relay. The relay went to the carb heater, choke and idle speed
Those ugly splices were how the factory did them, crimped/soldered/ and wrapped with duct tape
All that is gone now, installing a Holley Sniper

I remember a similar wire and connection on my ‘86 too.
However, purged all that crazy wiring for throttle body EFI by Howell.IMG_5422.jpeg
