I've done a TON of searching for this answer but haven't been able to dig it up yet. I'm replacing a water pump (overheating, bad-bearing-sound coming from there) and can't figure out how to get this pulley off. I have the loaner tools from Auto Zone but don't know what I'm supposed to do with 'em.

Also, is that wobble demonstrated in the video abnormal?

Thanks in advance.

The only thing holding the pulley on now is friction. The wobble will go away when you replace the bolts that hold the fan on. Just wiggle and pull on the pulley at the same time and it should come right off. I have no idea what the tools from the auto store are for.

Agree with the above. I just did this job on my '81. The pulley will come off by hand. No special tools needed. Id replace the fan clutch itself while your at it.

That video stated the tools shown were for a fan clutch and not removing the pulley.

Yeah but you don't need them. I just unbolted mine and bolted the new one on. :dunno:

Just tap the pulley as you turn it.
It will come off.
I strongly urge you get a copy of the REAL factory service manual!
Haynes/Chilton just don't cut it.
Also-When was the last time a 'rod-out' was done on the radiator?
When you add water-Use distilled ONLY. No tap water.
