1982 i6 keeping as stock as possible
So I have an 82 with a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l and am replacing the stock carb. I am mechanically inclined but a little lost when it comes to carbs. What's my best option and I have $300 to spend thanks. Also Im not quite sure how the electric choke works on a stock 82 CJ7 . And I'm sure its not working right now. Not sure if its wiring or the carb or wiring. And If it is wiring is it a difficult fix most of the time or would I be better of getting a carb that has a manual choke

Your best option is the motocraft 2100. Lots of wright ups on the net about it. Second choice would be the weber carb. Both will need an adapter and both can be had, used for under your price.

holley or motorcraft

I have the Weber 2 bbl 300cfm dcge.... i forget which one but i'v never been able to keep a tune, ever! even when i took it to the shop they didn't have it running much better. I think im going MC but i really want the Howell set-up.

I vote for the motor craft 2100 and carb adapter by "grog" I'll try to find the link for him. As for electric choke they are pretty easy to wire up if your stock set up isn't working.

just an fyi update, im looking into carb options for when my carter decides to be more trouble than its worth and i found the guy that makes that adapter plate and the full motorcraft conversion kits on ebay.

ehrmannmp on eBay

for anyone interested.

i hope hes still active, if the track record of the carter 1bbl holds true ill need to be getting ahold of him within the year about a full motorcraft kit.
