I am restoring a 78 CJ7 . Where's best places to get body parts & such, ie windshield frame. Any help appreciated.

Welcome and good luck with your rebuild.

Windshield frames can be purchased from the big three parts people for Jeeps: 4WD, Quadratrac, and Morris 4x4 The best windshield is to find a good used one. Some people have reported minor fit issues with the new ones. By-the-way, most Jeep steal body parts and all Jeep steal tubs are built at one place: Jaun's. Lot of people sell them, but they all come from there. Some parts however are made else where. Here's a couple of good places to buy from: https://www.carid.com/1979-jeep-cj-quarter-panels/ and 1976 - 1986 Jeep CJ7 When it comes to tubs as I said the are made at only one place, the best place to but is Willys-Overland Motors if you want steal. You can also find fiberglass parts and tubs, and aluminum: Jeep - Hard Bodies by Aqualu Industries Inc. | Aluminum Replacement Bodies & Accessories

Hope this help's some.

There are also a few guys around the country that part out CJ's. I have only dealt with one in my neck of the woods, but as Peanut Butter said, used OEM is always better, just harder to source. Some YJ parts will work, some of those requiring some work to get em back to CJ configuration (like a tub).

Haven't dealt with these guys, but they are highly regarded here...

Many knowledgeable folks here - they will offer sound advice...... good luck, start a build thread, and post PICS!!! :poke:

Any chance you're a Ruger fan?

I am! :biggun:Got two 10-22's. One has never been fired. Owned several pistols over the years too. :D

Ruger Fan - Does a Ruger #1-22-250, a highly modified Ruger #3-223, a 10/22, a 22 magnum revolver and a 22 LR revolver count? The #3 is my go-to predator rifle.

Wanna thank u guys for the help. Its already helping a lot. Best jeep site I've seen thanks again. This sight rocks

:welcome: to the forum!

Try these guys for body parts: 1976 - 1983 Jeep CJ5

And for the curious: I've got a few Rugers

Welcome to the forum! :)
If you can find a factory windshield frame on eBay or craigslist that's not rusted through, buy it immediately. Windshields are one of the first things to go on a CJs, depending on where you live. I've had to replace two of them, and the new frames never fit right.

As to where to buy parts, there are a few junk yards around the country that specialize in old jeeps. I found one when i was living in Seattle (Olympic 4x4 Supply - Jeep and Offroad Supply). Entire columns of old CJs that you could take any part you wanted. The original factory parts are always going to be better quality. Second option is eBay, but your last resort is buying new parts. Rugged Ridge, smittybilt, and Omix-ada, sometimes have decent quality parts, but most times its chinese junk that breaks or rusts after a couple weeks.

Good Luck with the build!

Funny - I was asking if the OP was a Ruger fan since his username is wood1022, and everybody answered but him LOL.

I've been a Ruger fan for years, and have had a few I should have held on to..... but this has been my favorite so far. I decided to learn myself how to restock rifles, so I bought a beater 10/22, a semi inlet stock, and had at it. Checkered it with my Grandfather's checkering tools ( he was a gunsmith your years and years)

OP - original poster....... in this case you being the dude asking for help with parts sources that had his thread hijacked.... sorry bout that :chug:

Checkering ..... Nice I've done a few stocks, never tackled checkering though. I do have some old tools, to nervous to actually use them though.
