1978cj7 glass tub tilt front end 4.5" Rubicon Express lift 304 DUI Holly truck avenger T150 D20 33's , 2010 Rubicon JKU, 2015 WRX
I'm looking for a nice pair of rock sliders for my 78cj7 that will double as steps. The 4.5" lift makes it a little tough to clime into. I have a glass tub so I need ones that will attach directly to the frame. Any suggestions on brands that will work for me.
:notworthy:

I used some 3/16 angle iron that I got at a scrap yard. I guess I could have welded steps on them, come to think of it. They seem to withstand most rock hits, providing I drive slow enough. I have had a couple of thinner sets that got bent up, but this size seems to hold up, with enough bolts holding them on.

Don't be afraid of attaching them to the tub w/ fiberglass - trust me it can take it.

I'd be afraid of attaching sliders to a steel body, let alone a fiberglass one.

I have a homemade set that is welded to the frame that work well, but they are a lot like these. Warrior Products 57" Rock Bars (Pair) WAR7471

I had some of these made for Dad's Scrambler that sandwich the frame so it didn't require drilling to mount them. I have a set of WP Rock Bars for my CJ7 too that he used to see what I wanted the Scrambler bars to look like.

Neither of my sets are mounted yet (no excuse, I'm just a slacker).

Torx - I meant as opposed to welding them or bolting them to the frame.

These are what I have and like them a lot. That said they did require a bit of cutting and welding to fit the way I thought they should. The passenger side fit OK but they seemed to think the CJ5 was symmetrical and that did not allow for the muffler and the e brake. this required the drivers rear to be relocated a couple of inches. You do have to drill through the frame but spacer tubes are supplied so the frame is not squeezed when everything is tight. I also had to put a spacer behind the prop valve to clear the mount plate.:D

I don't think I ever reviewed the Keep it clean terminals but they are pretty cool, I have used several and will use more as needed.:D

The super sliders are cool but the regular rock rails won't get you where you want to be. No step.:D

Looks good, I like it.:chug:

:)Pretty hard to have a good rock slider that doubles as a step also.........here are some I built that attaches to the frame and does give you something to climb on.
Good Luck!

You wouldn't be looking to, oh...give those away any time soon, would you? Those are pretty slick. I think I just got some ideas after I get done with my list of eleventeen other things to do.

Wake your ego up I want it to get the full benefit of what I am about to say.:D

your work is incredible and the design is most impressive and well executed. Well done.

Do you have any more shots of the actual attachment to the frame?

:)IO........Thanks for the ego boost old buddy.........seems as I get older I get more creative but just slower in the process..........Humm!

Should be able to pivot off some rocks and not hurt the body with these.
They are held on via self tapping bolts now.......so that If you want to take them off the option exists..........As I'm boxing the frame I will weld in some threaded bungs inside the frame and then just use a 3/8" bolts to hold them in place. They bolt to the side's and also the bottom.

:D:D:D:D

I would suggest a 1/2" pipe spacer and a through bolt. The trapped nuts never seem to work out well, long term.:D

Those are very nice sliders. Ever consider making up a set or two for us guys that don't have the equipment/talent ?

:)Hi Stich.................. talent? Wow .....Your a guy that has plenty of that in your own right when it comes to seats and recovering them!

As far as making more?........Humm check back with me in a year or so when I finish this old Jeep!(LOL) :D:D.......

On another note, one more benefit of the frame mounted sliders and for which really the design came about, was to have the ability to attache or direct the force from the front down tubes on the roll cage........as you can see in this photo there is a mount provided that will have a standard high energy body puck located there between the floor above and where the cage down tubes are mounted.
