Safe operating temperature for 225 V6

So my '67 CJ is just about ready to be put on the road, however, the original temp gauge is not working. I plan on installing an aftermarket guage with the numerical temperatures on it instead of the
C and H. I've been running the jeep up and down the driveway to get a feel for it and get the juices flowing, but it seems to be getting extremely hot for just the short 10 minutes or so that I run it. I don't want to cause any damage to it by over heating, so when I do install the temp gauge I wanted to find out just how hot these engines run. I was told some engines were designed to operate at hotter or cooler temps.

What's your gauge show'n??
185-195* would be fine.

I purchased a new radiator that did not come with a cap so I picked one up from my FLAPS. I told the the year make model and they pulled one for my. It has the number 13 located in the center, I'm guessing it stands for 13lbs.
Temp guage is not working or at least it's staying on C, I plan on installing an aftermarket one when I get the time.
I'm pretty sure it's running hotter than 185-195*

Time for you to buy an IR temp 'gun'.
You never said what temperature thermostat you installed--

It's either a 185* or 195*, and that is when they START to open. Add 10-15* for fully opened.

Add 10 - 15* for fully open, so if I have a 195* thermostat the operating temp of the engine would be at least 210*. Is that a safe temp to run without causing any damage?
In an effort to lower the temp I should get a lower thermostat temp?
I have also been looking for a fan shroud, I'm sure having this should help as well.

Is the thing boiling over? If you've got a radiator full of distilled water (NOT TAP WATER) and anti-freeze at about a 50/50 mix your good to go. Motors run hot, that's a fact of life. Most of us don't worry about it, until we start worrying about it, generally needlessly. So, go ahead and get your temp gauge, I have no problem with the C-H units, but to each his own. I like the Autometer gauges. They are decent quality without braking the bank and look very close to the stock units.

Do some research(GOOGLE)and find what the OEM t'stat temp was. You really don't want anything less that 185*. Not good for the engine--
X2 on distilled water use and NEVER use 'tap' water when mix'n anti-freeze.

Thanks for the advice guys. As far as the temp on the thermostat, Kaiser Willys Auto supply has them for '41-'71 with them being 160*, which is really low, and 180* recommended for jeeps located in Northern colder climates.

The 225 should have a 15 psi cap
The 225 originally came with a 190* thermostat
Use a 195* thermostat
The 195* thermostat typically starts to open at 185*-187* and should be fully open at 207*
