I have a 1965 cj-5 with the original 4cyl engine, t-90 traney and dana 18 transfer case. it has a 3" lift and was an air force jeep.
I got some bad gas about a Month ago and have been having problems ever since. I drained the tank, replaced the hoses, fuel filter and fuel pump. The engine ran ok with a shot of carb cleaner before driving for about a week. Now it will idle fine but once the engine is under load it has no power. I dis connected the fuel hose from the carb and ran the pump and fuel flow is fine. How much of a job is it to strip and clean one of these carbs. I tend to keep my jeep running but would not call myself a mechanic. Any thing someone could point out that I missed would be a big help to.

I would think you might also want to consider other issues like spark plug condition and wires. Like what might need maintaince work next.

I just went through a problem like that this weekend. Mine was not getting good spark under load. But under idle it was OK. Bench test the coil.

Mine ended up being the ignition wire shorting in the loom due to dropping and melting against the block. Not a good situation.

But it does sound to me like an ignition/spark problem.

Does it throttle up setting still?
You have checked for vapor lock and flow
First check air cleaner.
Choke connection, it should be connected to the rod fully open and cable pushed all the way in.
Float level & Valve seating.
Accelerator pump & other carb conditions.
Fuel flow (you have checked)pump, flow, vapor lock, pressure, volume & vacuum.
Fuel supply (lines from tank, you checked).
Ignition: timing, plugs condition, distributor cracks carbon burning corrosion rotor points tolerance, coil primary, voltage drops, coil secondary.
Vacuum.
Compression.

Fix as required.

Check your spark plugs. I think it's possible that they could have become fouled from the bad fuel.
