Sparking near plugs

Man I am glad I found this forum!
I have a ignition problem I think.
My CJ7 suddenly started running rougher and sounding like it is skipping a beat. The other night I looked at the spark plugs while is was pretty dark in the garage and could hear a 'tick' sound at the same time I saw a spark down near the third-from-the-left spark plug and was relieved because I figured all I needed to do was change out my spark cables and problem solved.
So today I replaced all my spark cables and it is still emitting that 'tick' sound periodically while skipping a beat but I don't see sparks. So at least I won't set on fire today
What is continuing to cause my engine to skip like this and emit that 'tick' sound? If it is a grounding issue, I am not sure where to look to fix that.
Before I just go in and replace my plugs, should I be doing something else. The plugs visually looked fine (without pulling them). No broken/cracked tops or anything.
Thanks in advance!
