Weber carb on AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l , both relatively new (less than 4K miles): Jeep will crank right up (about as quick any other cold-nature Jeep). It will run just fine when in gear, whether accelerating, decelerating.

However, after getting warmed up, it has begun to stall out when idling in neutral. Sometimes it will stall like this consistently for a while. The problem sometimes seems to just 'go away' for a while, but will eventually occur again. When it is stalling out, it will sometimes stall right after I engage the clutch and the RPMs get back to idle levels.

Any advice would be appreciated.

You need to determine if it is an electrical or fuel related issue. possibilities could be a bad fuel pump and your fuel pressure would be low. A bad fuel tank vent system can prevent fuel from getting to the pump. There can be a loose electrical connection somewhere. A spark plug inspection could determine if there is a lean fuel mixture caused from not getting enough fuel and jiggling wires while engine is running could find a bad wiring connection. Running down a list of possibilitys should find it, good luck.

:agree:

Also, do you have a fuel pressure regulator? Webbers are picky on the fuel pressure to run right.

Sounds like its running too rich at idle and this is easy to check. Look down the throat of the carb w/ the air cleaner removed and then bump the accelerator a few times. See if you see any fuel dribbling in large droplets down the throat *after* the throttle returns to the idle position. You will probably see a steady stream of fuel as you open the throttle - that is normal - you are looking for visible indications of fuel entering the manifold after you return to idle.

weber's are trash, research the carter bbd carb, you can pick one up cheep and they are a cheeeeeep rebuild. just get one without the stepper motor.
i have run the non stepper carter bbd's for years ,a good off road carb, easy to rebuild and easy to maintain.
