Okay, I just installed a 360 in my CJ5 . Along with the install The 360 got a D.U.I. ignition/dist. After reading the MDS Team Rush posts I thought cool I'll use the spark plug wires recommended there. Wrong move, wrong move twice. The second set of wires are barely long enough and clearly unacceptable.

The straight forward question. I know many of you have been down the path of installing a D.U.I. Dist. in your V8 Jeep. What spark plug wires did you end up using? Where did you get them.

Thanks

Michael

Easy, don't trip over yourselves in a rush to help me out. I think I'll go with any number of universal wire sets. It would have been best if universal wire sets were the only wires suggested for the HEI conversion. It's cool and I always like doing this sort of thing myself anyways. I could use the $50.00 wasted on the other wires, but hey we all have a learning curve don't we.

Sorry you didn't get a response in the time you expected. I purchased an MSD universal wire set for my CJ and had enough wire left over to make another set.

I always buy the universal sets, seems the premade ones never fit right.
I'd go MSD or Taylor both are good.

I'm not disappointed in with the site, I can't expect everyone to be on the site when information is needed. I admit to being frustrated in the local parts guys. If it isn't EXACTLY stock they are completely lost. I'm finding more and more wires that come with both stock and H.E.I. ends, but was I offered those, NO. I'm now finding that even Pepboys have the wires I need.

The MSD wires look nice, except for the price. Yes you get what you pay for, but if I can find wires closer to $50 rather than $100 it would help me out right now. My Jeep project is sucking money out of me like I actually have it.

Old Dog - You were typing while I was typing. You are right the premade wires seem to always have one problem or another.

Thanks for the response

You need to give up on the local parts stores and shop at Summit racing or Jegs, they have a lot better pricing.

I try to support the local guys if I can. I don't mind paying a little more for something in stock. The D.U.I. Dist. came from Summit. Many parts have come from the places you mentioned.

This morning I took a trip to Pepboys and they actually had a set of MSD Universal wires for a decent price. My failing with the wires was using part numbers mentioned here. Granted I might have miss remembered the number. As it turns out many wires come with both regular and H.E.I. Distributor caps The unfortunate part is they don't come with a crimping tool. The MSD wires come with the tool so they got the nod.

Now I have to rebuild the carb. Apparently the float isn't moving at all. The Jeep fires right away, runs like a champ until the float bowl fills then out the vent pipe it comes. Probably not a big deal, never really done a car type carb before. At this point I think I'm going to love this engine.

I used the MSD wires, part number 5551 for my DUI HEI upgrade last week. Found them at my local Advance Auto. Their website lets you look to see if it's in stock. I'd recommend going that way as it took them a while to actually find the set in the store.

I too was a little pissed when I got the HEI distributor and it needed different spark plug terminals at the distributor end. You live you learn. I too know the feeling of your Jeep sucking out your hard earned money. Mine went into my garage with a simple wiring project and finally came out 4 weeks later with an HEI upgrade.

AeroMoto - Exactly the way I went today MSD #5551 from PepBoys. The internet also says what they have in stock. I almost made a mistake and trusted the parts guy .... AGAIN ..... he said they only had Accel wires in stock, he even got a bit testy with me by showing how the computer worked. I almost went with the Accel wires but also needed to spend another $39 on a crimping tool. While looking for a better way out, I noticed the MSD wires on the shelf that the parts guy didn't even know he had available. The MSD wires come with a nice , simple crimping tool that makes a professional looking job.

One thing I'm beginning to hate is asking if they have a part in stock and the answers is yes we have it, but it's in another store and we will have it in a few hours. They don't like it when I say, "Then you don't have it in stock." The gutsier guys look me in the eye and say, "No, we do have it in stock in another store." or "We have it in stock but have to order it." I can order it too. That's when I say sorry guy, but I'll get it from a competitors store. I went through this just today, I needed a simple double plug for a Delco Alternator. The competitor had several of them on the shelf.
