Temperature sensor?

You might not have the water routed thru there. There's a good pic in that website that shows the hoses.

Thanks. I knew there was only air in there, and several other plugs too. I'll be working on this jeep monday and re-routing some hoses.

If you HAVE to, you could break the hose carrying hot coolant to the heater core. Install a threaded tee there with two hose barbs for the hose on the tee's two end ports. The side port can be reduced for the sending unit.

Thanks, this is a good idea.

I was not able to find a good picture in the "table of contents" of the heater hoses. I will be able to work on it soon.

Just wanted to say a BIG THANK YOU to you two for helping me. I just got back from my first drive in my jeep in 15yrs and it felt great. The engine is running like a sewing machine! Thank you again for your help. :)

Ok guys. I ran one heater core hose to the rear of the intake manifold and ran a hose from the front of the intake to the thermostat housing. I have my temp sensor near the front in the intake. Everything is flowing fine but my temp never gets over 130. What's wrong?

Sounds to me like the thermostat is stuck open... or missing.

ok,guys,, I have been looking for a tempature sending unit on a 79 CJ4 .2, I cant find where is. an...thanks.:( help would be great!. thanks

top of the head, drivers side, way in the back.

My coolant switch on the 84 is top of the head drivers side all the way back by the fire wall. On my current motor that's where I have my sender unit for the electric gauge.

For my fan control I have another set into the intake passages.

If your gauge is not reading more then 130 I would make sure you don't have an air pocket I the intake. Are you using the stock sender with an aftermarket gauge? Mechanical gauge? How are your gauge power and grounds?

Once the engine gets to temp feel the hoses.. If your main hoses are hot and your smaller hoses are cooler you may have a block in the heater core. I bet you have a sender/gauge issue.

I don't think so.. Most are in the head. Some 4.0's I think had a fitting in the thermostat housing. I think.
