Thrust block removal

I was able to get the drift pin out and pull the block out. Then the two spider gear washers fell out. So I reinstalled them. The shaft that has the roll pin in it has one side machined flat. Does it have to go in a certain way machined side facing the ring gear or away from the ring gear?

I found out the shaft with the roll pin is called the cross shaft pin. This is the shaft with the machined flat surfaces.
