Putting together my AMC 232 i6 . I have an upgraded double roller chain and want to make sure I'm not a tooth off. The marks look right but the teeth aren't exactly straight together. Any book I have for verification doesn't work as the new chain is smaller then OEM. Anyone have experience with this? View attachment 20284View attachment 20284 thanks!

Jake you could set up one of these:Timing Degree Wheel | eBay.
I see that the Cloyes double roller timing gear setup allows you to set the cam/crank relationship at a +/_ 2 deg. option, so I am sure you have that set where you want it.
Other than that you could just put it together and see how it runs. Not sure if you are using the oem cam or not, but I have seen those aftermarket grinds require an offset bushing on the cam locating pin. A degree wheel would indicate any error here, or like I said you could just put it together and see how it runs. Not having the nylon gear insert as the oem one does will make it a bit noiser but, you will get used to it. Hopefully, you have already researched this thing to death on the WWW.

So I had engine machine work done by a shop local here and I called them (got the cam through them) and he looked up the spec and I guess the grind on the aftermarket cam I have is about 4-5* advanced so therefore the teeth won't be exactly perfect. I appreciate the help thank you!

Isn't that odd. even with the advance, you'd think they would stamp the timing mark in the corrected location to reduce the possibility of a mistake during install. I put in a Harley Davidson cam it was listed with an advance, but the timing marks were right on.

I learned something here, thanks.
