RE: 83 CJ, 6cyl, AUTOMATIC

I bought this jeep last summer and with this weekend’s fresh snow I was looking forward to testing out the 4WD. Anyway I cannot seem to engage the Transfer Case into 4WD. The shifter will not budge from 2WD (but it did engage 4WD when I bought it). What is the standard procedure to engage 4WD? Any suggestions would be appreciated?

Try motor running let the clutch out slightly and push/ pull the Tcase lever. :D

with my auto it shifts from 2w high to 4w high best in drive at a slow roll, going to 4w low I have to be in P or N most of the time.

I've always done a slow roll with the clutch pressed. Out of curiosity, what does the owner's manual say?

Shifting Procedure
1. With vehicle stopped, set hubs to desired operatonal mode.
2. Start vehicle moving 2-3 mph or if already moving with hubs in desired position, reduce vehicle speed to 2-3 mph.
3. Shift Transmission to N (Neutral)
4. Shift Transfer Case to desired position.
