missing the plug or cap on the front of my
Transmission cover where the rails slide,
can but my finger in it and feel the rail sliding when I shift gears

its leaking bad from that hole

My question is
can I but the plug or cap
or buy a new tranny cover

and is that common to be leaking bad if cap is missing

I don't see any reason why you cant just put some kind of plug in there. It's just a cap.

If you need the complete cover - Morris sells them (#8). T-90 Borg-Warner Transmission Parts

It is not clear which model is in your possession – T-90 ’s or earlier ones.
You can do either of the following:
a) Just change the shifting forks and use a T-86 cover as you will find rail caps at both ends.
b) Let me assume that you own T-90 earlier model. Do you like to set caps on the rear shifts rail? You will have to carve a notch in the shift rail hole so that the pressure will be checked and your new seal will be protected.

Can't believe the cap popped off of my new cover same cap on the new as the old cover left front, so when you have it in 3rd you can feel the rail close to the end where cap is. ( did find the cap sitting on top of tranny guard)
put it back in.

But was wondering how common is this to happen and since I am not the most mechanically inclined person around. so taking the cover off and carving a notch in the shift rail hole would be last resort, its all new fluid in the case so its not thick or old.

is there anything I can put on the outside to hold or seal that plug in
