Transmission housing coverplate

Need some advice here,
I have an 82 CJ7 when I purchased it, it had a T-150 3spd. and model 20 transfer. After a little research I found it came with a T-176 4spd. and Model 300 Transfer Case which I have replaced. My problem is the Transmission housing cover I found orig. equip. from a salvage yard but when I shift into 4 low (all the way forward) it hits the cover plate, is there an adjustment on the transfer shifter? anyone ever experience this? I hate to start carving on the cover plate it was hard to find.

Maybe the cover plate is not for the T-176 /Dana 300 combo. Also do you have the skid plate lowered for driveline angle with a lift? A body lift? If so either could change the angle on the shifter.

agreed, don't carve it up.

If you have the correct cover plate (If the Transmission shifter is centered in the hole, its most likely the correct one).

It sounds like you have the wrong t case lever. You have an SR4 /T-4 /T-5 lever and you need a T-176 lever. They are bent different. The T-176 is shorter and moves the t case more forward. The tunnel cover t case hole is in the same place in all the later applications.

Doesn't take much to heat and bend the lever to fit your needs.
