Hello everyone, I am doing a frame off restoration on a 78 CJ5 . Three of the tub mounts were beyond repair. I made new mounts and when I went to weld them on I can not find the paper I had all the info and measurements as to were they get welded on at. The one I got back welded on as the other side was still there. The one's I need some dimensions for are the ones right before the rear wheels basically the 2nd ones back from the front tub mount. It is the one's where the frame starts to angle.
I have searched the internet for days and can not find any thing. I found a few that have dimensions but usually for the height of them. I need to know the center of the hole to center of the hole on the ones I need to weld on and the one next to it (second one back from the large front mount. I am at a stand still untill I get these welded on. Any and all help is needed. Thanks

unfortunately, you are going just have to get under there and do some measuring and fab them up yourself
it really is quite easy and it will really up your confidence in this area
once you fob your first thing and it works, suddenly a big AH HA moment is at hand and you will soon be doing a lot of it

good luck:chug:

I can get some measurements and pics of mine tomorrow for you.

Hope this helps:)

You may consider laying out a large piece of cardboard to make a template from the frame. It can be tricky getting the measurements square on the bottom of the tub. The template can be marked with several references and it sure is nice when all of the holes line up ! Good Luck.

Sasquatch if you can get measurements that would be great. I have the body off the frame and working on the completely bare frame. The place's on the tub where these two mounts go is rotted out also and will require fab work. So I can't look at or measure the tub mounts for where they go on the frame. I have torn my garage apart looking for that paper and I don't have a clue where it's at. I already made the new mounts for the tub and also made a new crossmember 2nd one in from the rear crossmember and have it welded in.
I found the print like the one above but it doesn't give dimensions between the mounts, just height from the ground.

I must be missing what you're after exactly? Ken's info shows distance between mounts front to rear and sideways spread. What am I missing?
Oops, Looked again and I see all mounts are not given, I confused the spring hanger measurements for the tub mounts

OK so this is not super precise by any means but...
From the front spring hanger go back 5.25" to the first mount
From the first mount go back 22.75" to the 2nd
From the second mount go back 15.25" to the 3rd
To check this mount against the rear spring hanger it should be back 4.25"
The bed mount should be 16" behind the shock tower, hopefully your bed still has the channel under it and this is your center.
The last mount is on the rear frame rail.

Great Advice

Thanks Sasquach sorry I misspelled your user name. I will see were these dimensions get me. This is a project I am doing for my wife and me. We had our 30th anniversary in Oct. and this is what we decicided we wanted. I told her almost anyone can go pay for one all fixed up but I can have the sastisfaction that I did this project on my own. So far it has been fun as I love working on something old and making it new or at least come back from the dead. It is a Pa. jeep so I had to deal with a lot of rust but you can't tell now. It will be painted the same color as the 78 Renegade she had when we got married Autum Red mettalic, you don't hardly see that color around.

Good luck with it!

there should be enough room to weld them on once the body is back on. bolt them to the body and weld them where they land! tack and remove bushing before finish welding to prevent melting!
