Okay guys and gals,

I have spent many o'hours removing the bolts (or sawing the bolts) to remove this tub on my 1979 CJ5 . I think I have them all. I removed the fuel lines and fuel sending unit.

I am certain I'm missing something, because the tub comes up in the back and front, but lifting from the front or middle makes me think there is something about here

that I am missing. That is the area of the resistance.

Here is what I've removed thus far (red did not seem to be present at all, but wood blocks that were not bolted or anything):

The green lines represent these brackets (where I removed one bolt (circled) but not the other:

Can anyone give me some guidance??? I thought I'd have this thing off today. Disappointing. :censored:

TIA

If you haven't figured this one out yet, you have to take that whole bar off to get the tub out. The bolt you have said you removed already and the one on the other end. That bar goes under a crossmember in the frame and has to be completely removed.

I was very fortunate that the 1980 CJ5 that I got was not as rusty as yours. You have one heck of a project on your hands.:chug:

Thanks. I'm going to look at it again later today... I did not see that it went under the crossmember... but everything is so rusted it all kind of blends together.

Those two bolts were hard enough to get out, I can't imagine how difficult the other two will be. They started 'spinning' and would not come out without me putting a vice-grip on the other side to hold it in place while working the bolt. If I can't get to the other side to hold that little square in place, then I'm going to have an even more tough time.

Perhaps it would be easier to just bend/break those two bars?

Okay...so you were right (in theory).

For a crossmember that is not completely rusted out, those would be attached.

Long story short, I just yanked it up and they popped off.

Congrats!:chug:

While you have it off and upside down, take you a grinder and cut the bolts off that attach the roll bar. You will see why when you try and get that off... Looking good so far!

CJ5s are easy...try the one man removal with a YJ tub some time. :chug:

Am I going to run into this on my 76' CJ5 ? Removal of this bar? I am hoping to have it removed this weekend.

Good work.. FYI I do all my work one man. Transmission swaps, axle swap tub removals. The only then I ask for help with is the windsheild removal.
