White 1983 CJ-7. Mostly stock for now. Gotta fix the rust first.
I need a new tub for my 1983 CJ7 , I found one for sale close by but it is a 1979 CJ7 tub.

Is the 79 the same as the 83? Can I just swap the tubs bolt for bolt and piece for piece? Or will I need to drill/weld some things?

Whatever the case, I DO NOT want a yj tub, only a CJ7 tub.

Thanks for all the help!

Grate. My only other question is: is there a company near Denver, CO that will do a tub swap? Or do I need to do it myself?

You are going to spend alot of $$ to have someone else do this when it's a pretty easy project. But if you don't want to try it a good bodyshop will be happy to take your money and do it for you. If you have a place and tools I say go for it. If you need a hand here and there let me know and I can probley help you. I'm always willing to help a fellow Jeeper and i'm just up north of you.

Thanks alot, if I were to do it myself, what tools would I need? and what would be the average amount of time it would take?

you would need a basic set of Standard sockets and wrenches. a 35 or 40 Torx bit and 4 friends unless you have access to a lift. If all the bolts and nuts come off easy I can knock the tub swap out in a day, and another day to finish up moving the wiring. Oh you may have a issue with the fuse block.. the 83 should be bigger then the stock.

How much are you reusing from the 83 Tub? If you've never done a swap like this before I would take a day or two to carefully remove all the small parts and take pictures/label every thing yourself. This way once its moved over you can reinstall every thing and know where it goes. Ive found the more people unhooking and unbolting the more things get missed or after they leave and 3 days later when your trying to finish it up you end up with stuff that you don't know where it goes.

So the short answer.. for an inexperienced person 3-5 days from start to finish. If you get help from a knowledgable jeeper. 2-3 days. a few knowledgable helpers and beer an afternoon

That's if, the beer comes last...:chug:

I plan to re-use everything I can. Swapping bare tub for bare tub. Thanks for the info and estimates.
